Abstract

All of human activities release greenhouse gases (GHG) emission. Carbon dioxide is a significant gas of the greenhouse gases. Every industry measures the emission of GHGs in every two years. In addition, the companies are controlled about their emissions according to environmental oriented production in every sector with Pareto Analysis. The quality and environmental oriented production performance is very significant for manufacturing industry on behalf of sustainability. The production based on SWOT analysis was applied to a white goods manufacturing company according to experts’ opinions in İstanbul, Turkey. The aims of this paper are to define the characteristics of an environmental oriented production through the requirements of customers and to utilize the Pareto approach to improve the quality of layout design of an environmental oriented production for a white-goods industry and also to decrease the carbon dioxide emission. Results show that environmental oriented production was the main determinants of the change in footprints (carbon, water, and energy). Thus, the purpose of this research is to decrease carbon dioxide emission with Pareto Analysis for this sector. Additionally, Pareto chart was used in every production step of this company. Those steps are energy carbon footprints (natural gas energy and electric energy) and transportation carbon footprints (raw material, production, service and forklift) in this research. The steps are explained and some suggestions were presented in the scope of this research.
