Abstract

UV light has garnered considerable attention in the textile industry for its promising applications and advantages. Regarded as an environmentally friendly and innovative approach, UV light is being explored to enhance the properties of textile materials. This study conducted experiments to examine the impact of UV-C light on polyester blended fabric. Fabric samples underwent irradiation in a UV-C cabinet for varying durations, specifically 15 and 30 minutes. Two conditions were considered for sample preparation: dry and 100% humidified. Subsequent bending rigidity and hydrophilicity tests were conducted to assess the influence of UV light on the fabric. The findings revealed that, when the fabric was 100% moistened, there was a decrease in bending rigidity and an improvement in hydrophilicity values. This indicates that the presence of moisture in the fabric can influence its response to UV light exposure, showcasing the potential interplay between moisture content and UV-induced changes. The study further illustrates that UV light can modify the surface properties of polyester fabric, consequently affecting its mechanical behavior. In conclusion, this experiment underscores the potential of UV light as a tool for surface modification in polyester blended fabric. The exposure to UV light demonstrated alterations in surface properties, suggesting potential implications for performance and functionality. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of how UV light can be leveraged to enhance fabric properties within the textile industry. Further research in this domain could explore variations in exposure times, humidity levels, and other variables to optimize the effects of UV light on textile materials.
