Abstract

This paper investigates the mechanical properties of concrete and mortar incorporating pozzolan as a lightweight aggregate. Pozzolan, sourced from volcanic regions, replaced 30% of river sand in the mixtures, resulting in enhanced strength. The study assessed workability, density, compressive strength at various curing times (3, 7, 14, and 28 days). Characterization studies included chemical, mineralogical analyses, and geophysical properties. X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy were employed for microstructural analysis. The results indicate the potential of pozzolan in enhancing concrete properties, offering insights into its applicability for lightweight aggregates in construction, thermal insulation for energy-efficient buildings, and addressing environmental impact and sustainable development concerns.
