Monitoring of Mercury and Lead in European Hake

The aim of the study was to evaluate the concentration levels of Hg and Pb, in edible tissue of European hake. A total of 44 fresh samples were purchased from different local fisheries, whereas muscle tissues were utilize to estimate the level of heavy metals by using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). Based to the results concentration level of mercury (0.1 mg/kg ww) and lead (0.02 mg/kg ww) measured in muscle samples tissue of both fish size resulted to be within the permissible levels for human consumption according by EC legislation.
