Sedimentological and morphological study of the Khnifiss lagoon

The Khnifiss Lagoon, situated in the southern region of Morocco, stands as a globally significant biological reserve, particularly noted for its diverse fauna. So many researchers have conducted comprehensive studies encompassing hydrological parameters, sedimentology, and currents within the lagoon. The findings from the analysis of currents revealed a complex pattern, indicating that water circulation within the lagoon is primarily governed by an alternating and bidirectional current system. This distinctive mode of circulation plays a crucial role in endowing the lagoon with a notable abundance of dissolved oxygen. The sedimentological examination of the lagoon identified a tripartite division, delineating three distinct zones. The spatial distributions of key parameters, including temperature, wind patterns, bathymetry, and salinity, proved instrumental in characterizing each of these zones. Notably, these studies underscored the Khnifiss Lagoon as a very interesting region for different aspects of research, and further exploration could yield valuable insights into the intricate dynamics of this unique ecosystem. In conclusion, the Khnifiss Lagoon emerges as a focal point for broader ecological research and conservation endeavors. Understanding and appreciating the intricate interplay of hydrological, sedimentological, and ecological factors within the lagoon are crucial steps toward ensuring the long-term sustainability and resilience of this remarkable ecosystem. Ongoing research efforts and conservation initiatives will play a pivotal role in unlocking the full potential of the Khnifiss Lagoon while preserving its ecological integrity for generations to come.
