Abstract

This study delves into the fluvial sediments of the Assif El Mal Wadi, aiming to elucidate the correlation between deposit size, distribution, and the dynamics of deposition. Situated in the heart of the High Atlas, the Assif El Wadi stands as one of the major tributaries of the Oued Tensift, renowned for its variable flow regime, giving rise to diverse sedimentary processes. Sampling was conducted across 13 stations, spanning from the upstream to the downstream sections of the wadi. The sedimentological investigation employs granulometric analysis, allowing the characterization of dynamic processes responsible for sedimentation in the region. This is achieved by tracking the evolution of various granulometric indices calculated for each station. The results pertaining to granulometric indices and their distributions across stations generally reveal samples that are relatively poorly sorted and asymmetric. This spatial grain distribution variability underscores the combined effect of forcing agents (associated with the wadi's transport nature) and the sediment sources, providing valuable insights into the sedimentary dynamics within the region.
